Meringue Heart Cookies

Valentine’s Day is full of recipes that sit heavy on the stomach; plates of pasta, seafood and of course, decadent desserts. Switching things up from the usual cheesecake, fudge and parfaits for light and airy meringue heart cookies can be a delightful change.

Heart shaped meringues are a fluffy cookie with a delicious crunchy texture that only takes 5 ingredients to make and melts in your mouth.

Meringue Heart Cookies

Yields: 12 to 15 meringue cookies

Tools needed:

Ingredients

  • 4 egg whites, room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ tsp lemon juice
  • Red gel food coloring
  • Red sprinkles

Directions

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and preheat the oven to 200 degrees F. Set aside.
  2. Using an electric mixer, beat eggs on medium speed. Add lemon juice.
  3. Gradually increase the speed to high and keep mixing while slowly adding sugar.
  4. Once your mixture is and forms stiff peaks, add one small drop of gel food coloring.
  5. Attach your 1M Wilton tip to a piping bag and draw out a heart outline on your lined baking sheet. Then, fill each one in.
  6. Garnish with red sprinkles.
  7. Bake for two hours. Once two hours has set turn off heat and let sit in the oven for 35-45 minutes.
  8. Remove from heat and allow to cool on a wire rack.
