If you’re really feeling adventurous the ingredients can be substituted as needed. For example; the cupcakes and frosting can be made from scratch or if you’re short on time you can use your favourite boxed items. You can use shaved dark chocolate or crushed Oreos instead of the sprinkles and green M&Ms or Skittles instead of yellow Reese’s pieces. The possibilities are endless!
Ingredients
-
- 12 cupcakes
- 1 to 2 cups chocolate frosting
- Black jimmie sprinkles
- Black fondant
- Black frosting
- 6 Starburst Unwrapped candies, cut in half diagonally
- 24 yellow Reese’s Pieces candies or M&Ms
You will also need:
-
- Large open star tip (Wilton 1M Open Star Piping Tip)
- Piping bag
- Fondant rolling pin
- Fondant cutter or knife
- Toothpick
Instructions
Using the toothpick and black frosting, draw a line in the center of each yellow candy. Allow the frosting to set completely.

Pipe frosting over cupcakes in a circular direction working from the center of the cupcake towards the outside.

Invert cupcakes and press into the black jimmies.

Position a half Starburst Unwrapped candy as the cat’s nose. Press one yellow candy “eye” to each side of the “nose.”
Roll the fondant flat and cut 24 triangles. Press fondant triangles into the top side of each cupcake as the cat’s ears.
Using the remaining fondant, roll into long strands and cut into 6 whiskers for each cupcake.
With a toothpick, press the end of the whiskers beside the “nose.”
Black Cat Cupcakes are the purr-fect Halloween cupcakes – simply adorable and not spooky, in any way. I guarantee you will want more than one of these kid-friendly Halloween desserts to cross your path!
