Self-care for moms can feel pretty non-existent if you are not careful. As a mom, we are wired to be caregivers for our family. A lot of times moms will put their needs aside to help their family members, and in that, they forget about self-care. Self-care is essential for every one of us, and we have to learn ways to practice self-care. Take the time to make a vow to place self-care on your to-do list and take time for you!
Stop! If you think self-care would be nice but I don’t have the time. Let me enlighten you; you make your schedule. So pencil yourself in, and learn to say no to others so you can have that time for you. Unwind, relax, zone out, and focus solely on you, regularly. You will feel happier, less stressed, and able to go through your day to day life more manageable.
Don’t feel guilty, remind yourself that taking care of you, is primarily taking care of the family. Your family needs a happy, healthy, and relaxed mom to help with tasks, cook meals, be a shoulder to lean on and more.
How to Practice Self-Care For Moms
Me Time
Pencil in time for you. Whether you like to sit on the porch and listen to the bird’s chirp or go shopping for some retail therapy, and yes, shopping online at places like Amazon do count as retail therapy. Taking the time for you, will help keep you grounded and relieve that stress and allow you room to just breath. Try to get your me time at least a few times a week. Even if you sneak off for a relaxing stress relief bath alone with no kids popping in and out. Just having alone time for you really can rejuvenate the mind.

Fuel Through Food
Make sure you are taking the time to eat right. Fueling your body with fruits, veggies, protein, is going to help you feel good and give you fuel to tackle your day. When we live off sugar and caffeine, you will become sluggish, get that sugar high drop when its over and feel yucky. Try to eat healthy throughout the day. Signing up for a healthy meal subscription service that gets delivered right to your door will take the guesswork out of what you should cook for dinner and give you peace of mind that your family will enjoy something nutritious and delicious in minimal time.
Healthcare
When you are scheduling your family’s doctors appointments for checkups, eye wellness, etc. make sure to include yourself as well. You are just as important as everyone else. Those annual checkups are a must to check that your body is still in a healthy place.
Exercise
Exercise is good for the soul and can help reduce weight, give an energy boost as well as mental boost. Try to get out and even walk around your neighborhood or go for an evening job. Just getting up and being active can give you a mental boost and make you feel good.
Read or Podcast
Self-help books along with motivational books are always so lovely. It is a great way to gain insight on your life, see how someone else thinks about situations and can give you a pep talk if you need it. I love reading an excellent motivational book to get me geared up and feeling good. We all need something to help boost our morale. If reading isn’t your thing, maybe find a good podcast to listen too.

Get Connected
Find the time to spend with family and friends. I can’t tell you how much better I feel after walking away from a lunch date with friends or even a play date where we let the kids play while we chatted over coffee. It just instantly lifts your spirits. Ensuring you make time for friends and family regularly will be great for keeping you fed with love and support you need.
Sleep
Make sleep a priority. Minimal sleep can make you feel sluggish, more anxiety-ridden, and even shorten your temper. Try to go to bed at a decent time, so you, get adequate sleep through the night. Don’t stay up working on projects or cleaning the house. It can wait till tomorrow. If you continuously don’t get enough sleep it can lower your immune system and put you at risk of getting sick more often.
