Cold & Flu Season Survival Tips

Cool Mist Humidifier

The beauty of a cool mist humidifier is it helps reduce flu viruses in your home from what is in the air to surfaces. Cold mist humidifiers are great to run all fall and winter long to help reduce the bacteria in your home. You want to try and keep it between 40-60% humidity to help get rid of any unwanted viruses floating around. If you don’t run it all the time, make sure you at least start running it when one person gets sick.

Hand Washing

Make sure you are religious about hand washing. Those viruses are everywhere especially on door knobs, light switches, and other areas we touch with our hands. Implement proper hand washing and use hand sanitizers when you are away from a sink. I carry sanitizer in my purse so when we are out and get done shopping, we all sanitize to get rid of any germs that we picked up along the way.

Hydrated

Did you know that when you become dehydrated or don’t drink enough you can be more prone to catching those bugs floating around? Make sure to stay hydrated with water, and skip over sugary drinks which can dehydrate you. If you are to get sick try to push items like water, Gatorade, Pedialyte for little ones, and even sip on broths.

Clean Home

Make sure you are disinfecting your home regularly with the right products. For example, if you have a stomach bug hit your home, you need to use bleach to clean your surfaces of the house. Other products won’t kill the virus and they can live on surfaces for weeks. So make sure to wipe down light switches, remote controls, door knobs, etc. Cleaning your home regularly will help kill and get rid of any viruses that are brought into the house, and reduce your chance of exposure.

Be Prepared

Make sure to buy the essential items you would need in case someone does get sick. Pain relievers for all age groups, tissues, toilet paper, paper towels, cold packs, anti-diarrhea medicine, anti-nausea medicine, soups, hydrating drinks, cleaners for the home, etc. These items are great to already have on hand, so you don’t have to run to the store in the middle of the night. You will have the essentials on hand to save you stress. Plus, it helps reduce the risk of exposure to others.
