4 Life Hacks for Working Moms

Being a working mom has its pros as well as cons. One thing that is extremely difficult for most working moms is trying to find a balance between work and home life. It is not an easy thing to do, your heart is in both places. Whether you love your job or just financially need to have one, you love your family and always want to be with them.

Well, what happens when you’re so busy working that you simply don’t have enough time in the day to get anything done? The simple answer is this; you find life hacks for working moms to help create more time in your day to day life.

Have a Family Calendar

I’m not talking about a calendar app for your phone, I’m talking about a big old calendar that’s up on the fridge, colour coded, and in plain sight, for the entire family to see. There are magnetic dry erase calendars but I personally like the 16 month planners so I can jump ahead and jot something important down; like future bill payments, appointments, school activities, etc… or look back at when I am trying to remember a particular date. Regardless of the family calendar you choose, make life easier by assigning each person a colour that will tell the family where to be, when to do something and how the week is going to unfold as far as tasks for each person.

Only Commit to Long Term Goals

Create long term goals for yourself and your family. Make a commitment that you’ll focus 100% on doing things that help make that long term goal happen. Sometimes creating daily goal lists will help you in your life. It’s hard to focus on tomorrow when you are a busy working mom, but if you have a way to keep these long term goals at the forefront of your mind it will help make life easier and allow you to focus on only committing to doing things based on achieving these long term goals.

Take Five

No, I’m not talking about taking five minutes, I’m talking about five tasks. Think about how your household runs and what your family needs to survive on a day to day basis as well as have a somewhat clean home. Assign yourself only five things that must get done every day when you arrive home from your workday. This will minimize your amount of time spent on unnecessary tasks and give you more time to relax and enjoy family life. If you truly cannot bring your list down to 5 tasks, then consider delegating tasks to other family members.

Use your Lunch Break

Every working mom has a lunch break and that usually runs around thirty minutes. Use your lunch break to schedule appointments, return phone calls and update anything else that needs your attention. This is a productive way to utilize your lunch break time, but don’t forget to eat something because you need food to fuel you through the remainder of your working day. Lunch breaks could also be a fun time to connect with your partner via a phone call or quick lunch date. Many working moms enjoy taking advantage of their lunch break to get something done.

These family life hacks may sound pretty reasonable and straight forward but the thing is we forget how simple it is to create more time in our lives. I hope that you’ll use these 4 life hacks for working moms to create more time, reduce stress and enjoy your family life as often as possible.
