Ways To Involve Your Kids In Spring Cleaning

The clocks have sprung forward and it’s time to do some spring cleaning. The idea of spring cleaning may cause some people to groan out of sheer displeasure, but the good news is, it doesn’t have to be terrible. In fact, spring cleaning can easily be made into a family affair in which everyone participates and actually enjoys themselves.

You see, spring means starting fresh, longer days, and nicer weather. It also means wanting to give your home a refresher and sometimes, when you have kids, it totally needs it.

So, how do we make Spring Cleaning less of a hassle and more of a fun family bonding experience? It’s not nearly as complicated as it sounds.

Dress for Cleaning

Tie your hair back and pull out those rubber gloves, because everyone is cleaning. Give your children personalized cleaning attire to wear to make it feel like a game of dress up. Bandanas with their names on them, cute little aprons with characters they love, and funny themed rubber gloves can all make the cleaning experience much more fun for your little one.

Pump the Music

Put on some tunes! There isn’t much that can put people in an upbeat mood and get the energy flowing the same way music can. You can even use the music to make a little game out of cleaning. When the music starts, you clean and move your body. When the music stops you have to freeze. A little game of freeze dance can turn any spring cleaning experience into a full-blown giggle fest.

Make it a Contest

When you make cleaning up a game instead of a chore, your kids will get more enjoyment out of it. Make Spring Cleaning a BINGO game, write down activities in a BINGO type chart and cross off activities as they are completed. The first person to yell BINGO wins a prize. You could even make it a game of musical rooms and every time the song stops or changes, you must pick a room to clean. Once a room is finished, then take it off the list, narrowing down the person’s options.

Choose the Best Tasks

There are many different tasks that your kids both young and older can help to complete. Make sure you choose age-appropriate jobs that you know your child can complete with little to no assistance.

  • Wipe Baseboards
  • Vacuum Furniture
  • Yard Work
  • Clean Walls and Cupboards
  • Dust
  • Purge Toys and Clothing

Things to Remember

Don’t forget that while your children are helping you spring clean your house, they are still young. It may take your little ones longer to complete a certain task than it would take you. Remember to have patience, fun and praise your children for their willingness to participate.

In no time, you can have your house fully ready for spring and you don’t have to do it all alone. Involve your little ones and help them learn responsibility, have fun and spend time together as a family working towards a common goal.
