5 Ways to Avoid Heat Stroke this Summer
This summer has been a hot one. We have a fan built into our furnace but we don’t have air conditioning. Our house has reached room temperatures of 85 degrees +, and that’s not just hot it’s disgustingly hot. Obviously, this mama has had to find ways to make sure her family stay hydrated and avoid heat stroke.

Keep your doors and blinds closed
Unless there is a cool breeze, there’s really no point to opening your windows until night time. You may want natural light in your home, however, once the sunlight hits the window it automatically starts heating the room and increasing the room temperature to unbearable heights. If you can, purchase insulated blackout curtains for each room, this will keep it cool in the summer by 24% and warmer in the winter, not to mention quieter and a little cozier.
Cool the air around you
Fans can help keep your home cool, but you have to be careful to not just blow a bunch of hot air around. If you’re goal is to cool down a small-ish area, try sticking a couple of freezies to the fan or placing a bowl of ice in front of it. This may sound weird but it DOES work!

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate…
First off, stay away from alcohol and caffeine. Second, yes, water is great for hydrating your body, however, when it’s 86 degrees out and the kids are running around outside they (and you, if you’re chasing them) need something that’s going to also keep their energy levels up. BODYARMOR Sports Drink is packed with electrolytes, coconut water and vitamins making it THE sports drink for superior hydration. It’s low sodium and high potassium content helps those achy bones feel better and gets your heart pumping blood through your body. This is probably why athletes such as; Kobe Bryant, James Harden, Mike Trout, Dustin Johnson, Andrew Luck, Kristaps Porzinigis, Richard Sherman, Dez Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, and Skylar Diggins choose BODYARMOR as their sports drink of choice.

BODYARMOR Sports Drink is now available in 6-Packs across the U.S. at several retailers including Kroger, Walmart and Sam’s Club. It is available in four flavors including Strawberry Banana (our fave), Orange Mango, Fruit Punch and Peach Mango LYTE.

Protect your skin
The sun is attracted to dark fabric and can easily make you overheated way faster than if you were wearing something lightweight and clothing light in colour. So, if you have (or want) to be outside make sure it’s only for a limited time and it’s very important to ensure you are keeping yourself and your skin protected with 1) sunscreen on your skin, 2) a hat on your head and 3) light coloured clothing on your body.
Outdoor Tip: Mosquitoes also love dark clothing, so keeping your wardrobe choices light will assist in keep those pesky bloodsuckers away.
Water yourself
You know, just like you would to a plant. Go for a swim, soak your feet in cold water, take a cool shower, pour a bottle of water over your head, run in the sprinkler, hose yourself off, etc. If you’re starting to feel a little too hot use whatever form of water is available to you. Sure you can drink the water but don’t these options sound like more fun?!
