Teaching Kids Real Life Issues with Netflix #StreamTeam

TV is not ALWAYS a bad thing! Most shows DO teach kids real life issues.

Maybe the issue is peer pressure or being true to who they are…either way, sometimes it’s not easy for our kids to feel like they can talk to us about or we’re not too sure how to approach them about a particular subject.

Teaching Kids Real Life Issues with Netflix

Regardless of how long it’s been, we’ve all been in their shoes a time or two before - something’s going on at school and they’re either too scared or ashamed to talk to us. Television opens up the path of communication. After all it’s much easier to ask a question if the problem is staring them right in the face under a “third person”, right!?

This is why I love being able to stream all of our shows with Netflix. Here are a few of our favourite lessons:

Following the Rule - Real Life Issues Following the Rules
Watch Ep. S1E6: Stormy Weather/ Baba’s Adventure/ Rock Music

Mama tells Oona and Baba to stay close with a storm approaching. After ignoring her advice, Oona and Baba get stuck in a seagull nest during the heavy thunderstorms.

unnamedResponsibility
Watch Ep. S1E1: Puppies & Guppies/Sorry We’re Closed Today

Larry and Laura Carrot want to adopt puppies, but quickly learn it takes responsibility in order to watch over and care for a pet of their own.

Peer Pressure - Real Life IssuesPeer Pressure
Watch Ep. S1E6: The Legend of El Explosivo

After getting grounded for sneaking off to Bobby Popko’s house, Jackson realizes he needs to stand up for what he knows is right and not give in to please his friend.

What are you streaming this month to get your kids to open up?

My 7 little ones are all now adults so I don’t have to worry about what to let them watch. We do all love Netflix though and I really like that you can set it so that the kids watch only certain programmes, that’s neat. 🙂 The ones you have chosen sound to me like they will learn a lot from them, good choices I’d say.
