How To Get and Keep Your Kitchen Cupboards Organized

Spring Break is upon is and even though it’s not very ‘Springy’ in my neck of the woods I have decided to try and get some  Spring cleaning done before the nice weather hits us and we end up spending all of our time outside.  If that ever happens, that is…  I thought I would share my secrets on how I got all of my kitchen drawers and cupboards organized.

  1. If you haven`t used it in 3 months, toss it or sell it.  Chances are if it`s been that long since the last time you needed it, than it`s probably not that important to have around and it`s just wasting space.
  2. Play the matching game - make sure all of your Tupperware bowls have lids and in some cases the lids have bowls.  If it`s missing the other half, chuck it your never going to find it.
  3. Organize by necessity - have all your pots and pans, etc…  that you use most often at the front of the cupboard within easy accessible reach.  Now you don`t have to fight your way to getting what you want making a huge mess in the process.  The same applies for your cleaning products.
  4. If your `junk drawer`is anything like mine, it`s most likely filled with extra batteries, pens, loyalty cards and anything else that you don’t have a proper place for.  Buy a tray or a few, depending on your preference from the dollar store, to keep it neat and tidy for when you need one of those miscellaneous items fast.
  5. Expiry dates play a very important role in organization.  Make sure to check all of your food in the cupboards for the expiry dates and put all items with the soonest expiration dates, closest to the front.  They will be the first ones that you grab ensuring that nothing in your cupboards will go bad.

As hard of a job it was to re-organize everything, I can’t believe how good it feels to have my kitchen, where I have to admit I spend most of my time back to normal.  Do you have any tricks to getting and/or staying organized?
