10 Effective Ways to De-Stress After a Long Day
Life can sometimes seem like it’s too much to handle – we’ve all had those never ending days where all we wanted to do was crawl under our covers and hide. Besides dwelling on whatever life stresses are getting us down, what good does that do? Here are 10 ways to de-stress after a long day…
Crank the Tunes
Grab your earbuds and play the music you love the most as loud as you can handle; whether it’s a soft relaxing ballad or hip hop to get you energized music can always make you happy. For even more de-stressing dance like nobody’s watching and sing like nobody’s listening.
Exercise
This goes without saying but exercise not only does wonders for your stress levels but it’s also great for your health. Next time you feel the ‘heaviness’ in your chest go for a run, do some yoga or lift some weights. Your mind and your body will love you for it!
Let it all Out
“I wanna scream and shout and let it all out.” You ever have one of those days where this is your theme song? So do it! Scream, cry, yodel…whatever you need to do to get rid of the day-to-day stresses.
Go to your Happy Place
Everyone should have a room or a corner of their house they consider their happy place. Somewhere they can enter or just look at and automatically feel at peace. Creating one is simple; just add some objects with bright colours, décor your fond of and the people you love.
Unplug Technology
Turn off your television, shut down your computers and silence your phones…enjoy the company you have or catch up on some reading, I sweat it won’t hurt you!
Breathe
In and out, in and out…lying down and practicing your abdominal breathing–in through your nose, out through your mouth–can help decrease your stress and anxiety levels.
Aromatherapy
Using essential oils for aerial diffusion can enhance one’s psychological well-being. Organic Aromas nebulizing diffusers are handmade and require no heat or water, simply place your favourite mood-enhancing aroma into the diffuser, plug it in sit back and relax. The Raindrop Nebulizing Essential Oil Diffuser is my favourite; it’s beautiful, comes in two different colours and the artistic look sets off any room with the perfect décor.
Tip: Essential oils such as; frankincense, sandalwood, benzoin and patchouli may be too thick to use – I suggest thinning these oils with other essential oils or Sweet Almond oil.
Have a Drink
Tea, warm water & lemon, wine…anything you fancy. Grab a cup and just reflect (not dwell) on the day you’ve had – this time may help put events into perspective and show you how to improve on them next time, should there ever be a next time.
Take a Hot Bath
There’s something about a hot bath that’s just so soothing after a stressful day. Fill the tub with your favourite bubble bath, essential oils or bath salts and just soak in it.
Tip: When you unplug the bathtub turn on the tap, lie down with your head under the water and practice your abdominal breathing – the sound of water from the tap hitting the water already in the tub and nothing else always gives me a sense of calm.
Sleep Naked
Sleeping naked can be very beneficial for your mental and physical well-being; it’s great for your skin, improves your sleep, reduces stress and apparently helps you lose weight…this alone is enough reason to give it a try.
I want to know – How do you de-stress after a long day?
